The Kelana Jaya Wanita Umno division has passed a resolution calling for the Penal Code on baby-dumping to be amended to include penalties for men who father the children.
In tabling the resolution, Noorshaireen Abd Khalid is Kelana Baru Umno Wanita branch delegate said the government should review the Penal Code to check baby-dumping. According to Section 309A and 309B of the Panel Code, no penalties are imposed on men who should be also held responsible for the inhuman act of baby-dumping.
She also said, “The maximum sentence imposed on women for killing their babies or dumping the babies with the intention of killing them should be reviewed”, at the Kelana Jaya Wanita Umno division delegate’s meeting opened by Deputy Human Resource Ministry Senator Datuk Maznah Mazlan.
Meanwhile, the meeting also supported the launch of OrphanCARE’s baby hatch for unwanted newborns to allow mothers to leave their babies anonymously at its premises in Petaling Jaya.
